Hynes earned his spot in the program after representing Victoria’s Kickstart team, which finished fifth, at the annual National Diversity Championships held earlier this month at Blacktown in Sydney.
The AFL Flying Boomerangs is a personal development and leadership program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players aged between 14 and 16.
Along with Hynes, the only other regional Victorian in the Flying Boomerangs program for 2018 is Tongala’s Mackenzie Cowley.
The program aims to expose participants to elite training environments and assist their transition into the mainstream talent pathway, while a core component is to strengthen their cultural identity.
