CALIVIL United coach Anthony Dennis says the Demons need to start turning patches of good football into more consistent output as they again strive to make their mark on the Loddon Valley league.
The Demons have begun their premiership defence with a win and loss in the opening two rounds.
After starting with a 10-point win over Marong in round one the Demons followed that up with a one-point defeat to Mitiamo last week in a game where they blew a 12-point lead inside the closing minutes.
It was also a game where they kicked just one goal in the first half and were outplayed by the Superoos for all but the third quarter when they kicked 6.5 to 1.2.
“Over the first two games we’ve only played a couple of quarters of good football out of eight,” Dennis said on Thursday.
“The start last week was what really hurt us when we were five goals to one down in the first quarter, but we showed in the third quarter what we can do to react to those situations, so that was a good learning curve.
“We knew it wasn’t going to click for us straight away with seven new players in the team last Saturday who didn’t play last year, but full credit to Mitiamo… they have put together a really solid team this year and don’t look like they are lacking in any positions.

“They seem to be a more complete team than they were last year and were able to get over the line.”
Like last year when the top five wasn’t finalised until the final game of the home and away season, 2018 in the Loddon Valley league is already shaping up as unpredictable.
Of the eight games played so far, five have been decided by less than three goals, while the only match with a margin or more than six goals has been Bridgewater’s 155-point hammering of Inglewood last week.
The Demons continue their season on Saturday against Inglewood in what has been a match-up that has been won by Calivil United the last 31 times they have met.
Dennis is expecting to miss the clash at Inglewood after twinging a hamstring last week.
