BRENDAN JOHNSTON and April McDonough celebrated victories in the Bendigo Mountain Bike Club’s annual Golden Mile Epic event held last Sunday at the Spring Gully trailhead.

Johnston – a three time National XCM champion – took out the 100km elite men’s race in a time of 4:17:08, heading a pack that include a pair of Bendigo riders in Tasman Nankervis (third) and Russell Nankervis (fifth) who finished top five.
The 100km women’s elite race came down to a sprint finish between McDonough and Kim Willocks.
In a dramatic finish Willocks crashed 100m from the line and had to settle for second as McDonough finished victorious in 5:26:29.
