Already 120 points up at three quarter-time at which stage they had a tally of 21.14 on the board, the Hawks further put the Magpies to the sword in the last term when they added 15.2 – a total of 92 – to no score to blow their final winning margin out to 212 points.
However, the Hawks weren’t alone on Saturday in producing quarters of high-scoring brilliance, with Kyneton showing its capabilities with a pair of first and third-term blitzes.
The Tigers opened their game against Kangaroo Flat at Dower Park with a 10.2 to 1.1 first quarter to establish a 55-point advantage, with six of their goals coming from Ethan Foreman.
But having scored 62 points in the first quarter, the Tigers surpassed that during the third term when they added a further 82 points – 13.4 – in another onslaught.
On the back of the efforts of both the Hawks and Tigers to kick at least 80 points in a term last Saturday, here’s a look back at the highest scoring quarters in BFNL games since 2009.
That’s a span of 856 games, in which just 14 have featured quarters where a team has scored at least 80 points.
Six of those 80-plus scoring quarters since 2009 have been by Eaglehawk, while the only other club to have done it multiple times through the period is Golden Square with four.
The two highest-scoring terms in BFNL games since 2009 have both been by Golden Square at the expense of Maryborough.
In the final quarter of their round nine, 2016, match at Princes Park, the Bulldogs kicked 17.5 – a total of 107 – to 0.2 in what was a 207-point win.
And a year earlier in round 15, 2015, the Bulldogs blew the Magpies away early, kicking 15.7 – a total of 97 – to 1.0 in the first quarter en route to a 238-point victory.
