Sarah Kellam travelled from England to Eaglehawk to her grandfather’s former school to present the William John Symons Memorial Award.
“To see my grandfather so respected here makes me feel very special,” she said.
Each year the school awards one student who has shown the qualities of courage and leadership, attributes similar to that of Victoria Cross recipients.
Chloe Trewin said she was very happy to have been chosen for the award.
“Very proud to have won, I’ve been here since prep and I have seen everyone else who has won a medal.”
Chloe said the students at Eaglehawk Primary School had learned about the life of William John Symons.
“They did what they could to save our country and William John Symons was a really good man.”
