Students filled Ulumbarra Theatre on Tuesday, with more watching the school’s Anzac Ceremony from a screen in the foyer.
RSL president Peter Swandale highlighted the need for remembrance, as well as the need to look after those who had returned home.
“This issue is a difficult topic to discuss for some,” he said.
“But as president of Bendigo RSL it is one of my highest priorities, to support those veterans who are struggling with everyday life, and to support those who can no longer serve due to mental or physical injuries.”
Veteran Craig Hancock had represented Australia at two Invictus Games after a spinal injury sustained during a tour of Afghanistan.
“As I stand here looking out at you all, it doesn’t seem all that long ago that I was your age and at school,” he said.
He shared experiences and lessons from his tours of Afghanistan.
"The truth is that when I was your age, I wish someone had come and told me some truths about war,” he said.
Mr Hancock said Anzac Day was a way to come together as a nation to commemorate the service of all who served.
