The Pioneers didn’t have the firepower to match the Chargers over four quarter and went down 10.9 (69) to 1.2 (8).
The round six TAC Cup girls clash at Golden Square was a tight battle in the first quarter.
The Pioneers’ defence held firm in the first quarter and the midfield won their fair share of the ball as they restricted Oakleigh to a three-point lead.
The visitors took control of the game in the second quarter when they added 4.3 to no score to extend their lead to five goals at the main break.
Oakleigh continued that momentum in the third term when they kicked 5.0 to no score.
To the Pioneers’ credit they fought the game out strongly in the final term.
Much to the home crowd’s delight, Megan Williamson banged home the Pioneers’ first goal of the game early in the final term.
The Pioneers’ next game is against the Northern Knights at Preston on April 29 at 12.45pm. The match is a curtain-raiser to the TAC Cup boys match between the Knights and the Pioneers.
