Epsom has made a 0-2 start to the season and in the process have looked a shadow of the side that finished fourth last year.
The Scorpions recruited a host of senior players to the club in the off-season in a bid to close the gap on the likes of Eaglehawk and Shepparton South.
In the first two rounds they've only scored one goal in 2-1 and 3-0 defeats to Spring Gully and Shepparton South respectively and they're second-last on the ladder.
On Sunday they face Colts United at Strathfieldsaye and another defeat would potenitally leave the Scorpions nine points behind the leaders and seven points out of the top four. It's a long way back from there.
Colts had a 2-2 draw with Shepparton in round one and had the bye last week.
At the top of the table, championship favourite Tatura faces a stern test when it travels to Shepparton United.
Tatura's off-season recruits Sean Grant and Lewis Coyle are proving their worth with seven goals between them in two games.
Shepparton United was stiff not to beat Eaglehawk in round one before thumping Shepparton 5-1 last week.
Strathdale, the only team other than Tatura to have two wins from two games, should make it three from three when it hosts Spring Gully on Sunday.
The Blues are yet to play one of the top five teams, but they've done little wrong in their two wins.
Bottom side Golden City faces a daunting task at home on Sunday against Shepparton South, while Moama-Echuca will fancy its chances of winning its second game of the season when it hosts Shepparton.
Eaglehawk has the bye.
In the women's championship, top-of-the-table Strathdale should consolidate its position with a victory over 11th-placed Spring Gully.
The Blues have looked awesome in posting two strong wins to open the season.
Second-placed Shepparton South will start a warm favourite against Golden City, while third-placed Eaglehawk should remain unbeaten when it travels to Swan Hill.
The closest match will be at Strathfieldsaye where fourth-placed Colts United hosts fifth-placed Epsom. Colts have the maximum six points from two games, but they haven't faced quality opposition yet. Last year's runner-up Epsom has splits its opening two games, but its best form is clearly good enough to topple Colts.
