With nine players in the side playing their first games for the club, the reigning premier Thunder wasted no time making an early statement in their season-opener last Sunday, thrashing Diamond Creek 22.17 (149) to 0.0 (0).
“It was a nice win to start the season last week, but we’re not sure at the moment how all the other teams are shaping up, so we’ll be going into this week expecting a big test,” new Thunder coach Luis Alvarez-Harris said on Friday.
“It was a fantastic team effort right across the board. Our defence really stood up and after half-time our midfield started to click a bit better and the forwards did really well to kick the score they did.”
The Thunder hosts the VU Western Spurs from 3pm at Weeroona Oval on Sunday in what is the club’s ANZAC Round match.
The Spurs have split their first two matches 1-1, which included going down by seven points to Keilor last week.
Prior to Sunday’s game a family day will be held from 12.30pm.
