NEW Elmore coach Sue Borserio is confident the Bloods are on the right track after coming within seconds of their first win of the season last weekend against Leitchville-Gunbower.
The Bloods came from five goals down at three-quarter to lead the Bombers with 30 seconds to play before a late goal to Leitchville-Gunbower forced a draw.
Despite sharing the points, Borserio viewed the result as a mini-win for her developing side, which entered the 2018 season with just three wins to their name in the previous three years.
“For us to match it with a top team like Leitchy shows great heart from such a new team,” she said.
The immediate road ahead does not get any easier for the Bloods, who will make the trip to Toolleen on Saturday to tackle Mount Pleasant.
It will be Elmore’s third straight game to open the season against a 2017 season finalist.
The Blues under second-year coach Belinda Pinner have impressed in a pair of wins over Lockington-Bamawm United and an improved North Bendigo and continue to build steadily in their bid to emulate or better last season’s third placing.
Borserio insisted it was not all about wins and losses at this stage of the season for her side, but more about long-term development.
“Mount Pleasant is a formidable group and have had a lot of time together, we are a new group of players who just need time together on the court,” she said.
“We are building each week towards that, but don't have unreal expectations on our group.
“This week we have a few outs from the senior squad and I will be bringing up some junior players for a run to start building the club’s A grade team with the youth of the club.
“We are laying down foundations for the next three to five years, it's not a quick fix at Elmore, it's about bringing through the kids of the club to one day be the next A-grade players.”
In other games, North Bendigo will search for its first win of the season against Huntly, which has opened the season with a win and a loss, Leitchville-Gunbower hosts Heathcote, and White Hills returns to action following a bye against Lockington-Bamawm United.
Colbinabbin has the bye.
