The average ratepayer in Macedon Ranges Shire will see their rates and charges increase by 4.2 per cent under the council’s proposed budget for 2018-19.

Changes to China’s recycling policies will again see waste collection costs rise in central Victoria, with the average ratepayer to pay an extra $49.
The council also cites the end of the current kerbside collection contract as another reason for the increased charge, with a new contract expected to incur higher costs.
Rates will increase by 2.25 per cent, in line with the cap.
The council expects revenue generated in the coming financial year will almost reach $48.4 million, a 5.5 per cent increase on the previous year.
It expects capital expenditure to top $24 million, of which $18.7 million will be new budgeted expenditure.
There will be an almost $1 million increase on 2017-18 spent on the renewal of council and community buildings.

Funding has also been allocated to several sporting infrastructure projects, including the Gardiner Reserve change rooms project, Barkley Square lighting upgrade, and improvements to Kyneton Showgrounds Number 2 Oval, Gisborne Tennis Club and the Lauriston Hall.
The council will invest $18,000 in a pilot community climate change action planning project, to develop a local plan for climate change, and $135,000 in building efficiency improvements.
“We are continuing to invest heavily into renewing and upgrading the existing assets we are responsible for,” chief executive officer Margot Stork said.
“We are also creating opportunities to work with state and federal government on new infrastructure needs for our community.”
