Lamb numbers decreased reaching a total of 15,765 sold which was 2200 less after the Easter break at Bendigo while conditions remain dry in the district. Quality mostly ranged from average to good with some excellent pens of heavy weight lambs also offered to the regular export buyers present with the domestic processors following the market. Prices were generally of a weaker trend with some buyers not operating fully and being more selective with purchases. There were some fluctuations for medium trade weight lambs as they eased $5 to $10, heavy weight lambs were back $8 to $14 and the light trade and light lambs sold $2 to $4/head lower. The 4500 Merino lambs drawn saw the best sales, between $123 and $152/head, also selling to a cheaper trend. Restockers and the feeders paid mostly between $99 to $133/head for store lambs with frame in an easier market. A restocker from Hamilton paid from $63 to $85/head for well-bred Merino lambs. Light weight 2 score lambs made $78 to $104, light trade weight lambs sold from $101 to $117/head as they averaged 600c/kg cwt. Medium trade weight lambs 2 and 3 score sold between $114 and $140/head as they averaged 585c to 590c/kg cwt. Heavy trade weight made $131 to $154 heavy lambs 3 and 4 scores sold from $148 to $162/head as they averaged 580c/kg cwt. Heavier weight 3 and 4 scores ideal for exporters 27-32kg cwt sold from $162 to $190/head with average costs varying between 550c and 570c/kg cwt. Heavy hoggets made from $114 to 138/head. There was a smaller number of 5496 sheep yarded, back by 492 head was of mixed quality with all weights and grades offered to the usual buying group with prices varying in the weight ranges. Sheep with good cover of both crossbred and Merino improved by $5 to $10, medium weight mutton averaged $2 to $3/head cheaper and light sheep sold to mostly unchanged. Very light 1 score sheep made between $34 and $66 and the light weight 1 and 2 score sold from $70 to $97/head as they sold on average from 325c to 420c/kg cwt. Medium weight mutton 2 and 3 score sold between $88 and $135/head as the Merino ewe mutton averaged 470c and the crossbred made 425c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes 3 and 4 score sold from $128 to $179/head as they averaged 430c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $118 to $175/head to average 480c/kg cwt. Medium Merino wethers made from $89 to $128 and heavier drafts of 3 and 4 scores sold from $128 to $168/head as they also averaged 480c/kg cwt. The best of the rams of all breeds sold from $58 to $110/head.

Cattle
A slightly better sized yarding came forward this week, with 170 being yarded. The cattle were in good condition and remained fully firm across the entire yarding. The top vealer made 3.19 per kilogram, holding steady from last week. Heavy steers were in good supply this week – the top steer reached $ 2.62 per kilogram. Medium to heavy steers were in better supply as well this week. The top steer reached $2.90, holding fully firm. A good run of cows came forward and sold to a top of $2.13 also folding firm.
