Head of Professional Standards Command, Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius took the action following revelations of incidents involving Victoria Police.
The directive comes after it was revealed a Bendigo policeman slammed 23-year-old Jia Meeks into a metal cell door in March, 2015.
As well as the Bendigo officer being directed to alternative duties, Assistant Commissioner Cornelius suspended three officers in relation to a September, 2017, incident in Preston.
He also suspended one officer in relation to an incident at a Preston chemist in February, 2016.
These directions and suspensions are interim actions only while all three incidents are being investigated by the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission.
