The overflow occurred on Tuesday at a sewer pump station near 245 High Street, Echuca.
A contractor identified the failed valve and contacted Coliban Water who attended the scene with two suction trucks on Tuesday afternoon.
The site was clean by 3.30pm with the trucks remaining there to manage sewer flows.
A pump was set up to manage sewer flows overnight before repair works began early on Wednesday morning.
There was no impact to customer’s sewer service but nearby residents may notice additional trucks and crews as repairs are carried out. Repairs are expected to be completed today.
Coliban Water is working with Goulburn Murray Water who has notified irrigation customers downstream on the Campaspe River as a precaution.
The Environmental Protection Authority has been notified.
