The skate parks are planned for Ewing Park just off Williamson Street, and at Cooks Reserve at the corner of High and Browning streets in Kangaroo Flat, next to the new aquatic centre.
Council earlier announced it would plan a skate park for Epsom Village Green. A council spokesperson confirmed those plans remain.
City of Greater Bendigo active and healthy lifestyles manager Lincoln Fitzgerald said the McIvor Road skate park was in “poor condition” and was not meeting the community’s expectations.
“The city has provided funding to redesign the Bendigo Skate Park, and after reviewing a number of possible alternative sites in and around the CBD we have identified Ewing Park as a suitable alternative location,” he said.
“Location is a major factor in the long-term success of a skate park.
“Ewing Park is considered a great site because it is in a highly visible area, is close to main roads and public transport and other amenities such as walking and cycling paths, and other recreation spaces.”
The council believes having a skate park next to the new aquatic centre in Kangaroo Flat would add to the growing community feel of the area.
The community will be able to have a say on the design of the skate parks.
The council will host a listening post at Ewing Park from 4pm to 5.30pm on Monday, April 16, and one at Cooks Reserve in Kangaroo Flat from 4pm to 5.30pm on Tuesday, April 17.
The number of people using the McIvor Road skate park has dwindled recently, and the council vigorously defends it against graffiti.
It is now permanently grey, with any graffiti quickly painted over.
