LAST YEAR: 8th – 3-13
NEW Maiden Gully YCW coach Wayne Mitrovic is confident he’s assembled a list that will put the Eagles back in contention to end their finals drought.
The Eagles last played finals in 2011, and in the six years since haven’t won any more than five games in a season.
The Eagles have enjoyed a fruitful recruiting campaign that has included luring back Mitch Collins from Kangaroo Flat as an assistant coach, as well as Nick Waterson – a club best and fairest – from North Bendigo.
Daine Lowry (Nagambie) and Joe Coatsworth (Wycheproof-Narraport) are both premiership players, with Lowry a returning Eagle.
The Eagles’ recruits also include a ruckman in Clinton Angove, key forward in Thomas Jehle and Ryan Walker returning to the club from Merbein.
Angove is joining the Eagles from Kangaroo Flat, along with Hamish McCartney and defender Carl Rohde, while Josh Robinson will provide some key position versatility.
“Our aim is to make finals and I believe we have a good enough side that is a genuine chance to grab a spot in the five,” said Mitrovic, who at this stage plans to be a non-playing coach.
