BENDIGO East added another chapter to its dynasty of dominance in the BBD’s midweek pennant division one competition on Friday.
The Beasties won a fourth-consecutive premiership with a 12-shot victory over Kangaroo Flat in warm conditions at South Bendigo.
It was an all-rinks-up victory for the Beasties, who prevailed 62-50.
“Four in a row is an excellent achievement, so I’m really proud of all the girls,” Bendigo East ladies president Ann Borham said.
“We were expecting a really tough game today from Kangaroo Flat, which has played well all season, and that’s what we got.”
The Beasties held a 34-24 advantage at the break, forcing the Flat – who were chasing their first premiership since 1976 – to play catch-up.
“Straight after lunch as often happens we fell away a bit and they started to creep up, but we were able to get away again,” Borham said.
Borham was one of the victorious skips for East, with her rink winning its battle against Kangaroo Flat’s Susan Howes 18-14.
In the other contests East’s Helen Clough defeated Val Flett 26-20, and in the closest match of the day, the rink of the Beasties’ Judy Davey defeated Val Mortlock 18-16.
East will now go on to play the City of Echuca in the region finals at Moama on Monday, March 26.
As well as its fourth premiership in a row, the Beasties have also now won 10 of the past 14 division one flags.
The victory completed a 4-0 clean sweep for Bendigo East against Kangaroo Flat this season.
