Hamish and Lachlan Davidson won instrumental of the year for Evelyn's Kitchen and bluegrass recording of the year for Back Where I Started at this year’s Australian Country Music Awards.
They will celebrate the best way the know – by hosting a gig at a brewery that is serving southern fried chicken.
“We just wanted to put on party for hometown crowd,” Hamish said.
“We're up for a good night. I’m going pick s**t out of the banjo, bring my fiddle and the slide guitar. It’s going to be a party.”
Local brewhouse True Brew will host the show and will have a special Golden Guitar Ale on tap. Flight Bar will cater the gig with their famous southern fried chicken.
“We are bloody excited about because our friends have come on board,” Hamish said.
“The guy a True Brew is my next door neighbour. I mowed his lawn and he gave me a six pack of beer and I said ‘what is this brewery?’ He said ‘it’s my brewery’.
“With the mates at Flight serving southern fried chicken, it will be a great atmosphere.”
Winning the Golden Guitar for best instrumental was the fourth time the Davidson brothers had picked up that award.
“It always shocks the crap out of you,” Hamish said.
“In the instrumental category, we were sitting at three (wins), the same as with Keith Urban and Tommy Emmanuel. We were nominated against Tommy and thought ‘here it goes!’
“The record is four, set by the Flying Emus in 1991. So we’re equal with them but we’re all friends and they are still active.”
Their win for best bluegrass recording was their first for that category.
“The bluegrass category is bit of a new one,” Hamish said. “We have played bluegrass since we were 12. It’s at the core of what we do but we dabble in blues, country, swing, Celtic and gypsy.”
Later in the year the Davidson Brothers will feature in Bendigo country music event One Hot Country Night in June.
“That's going to be good. We were excited to see that happen because there’s not a lot of events like that in this region,” Hamish said.
“We are certainly are excited to work with Lee (Kernaghan) again.
‘We also have a lot of festival gigs lined up and are planning to host a clinic to teach musicians how to survive in the industry. We are also in the process of selecting the recipient of our bluegrass scholarship.”
The Davidson Brothers play at True Brew on Friday, March 16, from 8pm.
Tickets are $25. Head to www.trybooking.com/UBDS to book.
