Champions IGA has signed on as the sponsor of the new league, which in its first season will feature the Bendigo Thunder, Strathfieldsaye, Kyneton, Kangaroo Flat and North Bendigo.
“The competition is terrific because it provides a clear pathway for junior female footballers to explore their strengths and for the senior league to retain talented sportswomen,” Champions IGA marketing and merchandising manager Graham Gamble said.
AFL Central Victoria administration co-ordinator Amy Kenyon says the sponsorship will assist with funding for club jumpers, runner and medical personnel clothing and player incentives.
The competition is slated to start on Sunday, April 29.
A pre-season round-robin tournament will be held at Rochester on Sunday, April 15, also involving teams from the AFL Goulburn Murray region.
