Trollope ran through the Demons with figures of 7-18 off 14 overs, surpassing Bruce Hando’s 7-38 – also against White Hills – in round four of the 2001-02 BDCA season as Square’s standout figures during the 2000s.
In doing so Trollope joined Nathan Fitzpatrick (Bendigo), Nick Crawford (Bendigo United), Andrew Smith (Eaglehawk), Quinton Bentley (Huntly-North Epsom), Chris Barber (Kangaroo Flat), Craig Howard (Sandhurst), Cameron Taylor (Strathdale), Ben Devanny (Strathfieldsaye) and Glenn Roulston (White Hills) as BDCA players with their club’s top bowling performances of the 2000s.
Trollope’s seven-for was the catalyst for the Demons being bundled out for just 64 – but White Hills wasn’t on its own on what was another day where ball had the better of the bat.
Apart from Strathdale-Maristians’ 242 against Kangaroo Flat, the other four teams that batted first on Saturday were all dismissed for 141 or less, while only five players made scores of at least 30 among the 72 wickets that fell.
Saturday’s struggles with the bat followed the previous two rounds in the BDCA where there were teams bundled out for scores of 130 or less nine times.
In what has become a bowler-dominated period of the season, Trollope’s 7-18 on Saturday was among 11 bags of at least five wickets taken in rounds 11, 12 and day one of 13.
Only Sandhurst’s Nayana Palamandadidge (104) and White Hills’ Gavin Bowles (108) have scored tons through that time, although, Sam Johnston went agonisingly close on Saturday to posting triple figures when he was bowled by the Roos’ Brent Hamblin for 99.
In total there have been 28 hauls of five wickets or more this season, with the Suns’ Johnston (6-38 & 5-34), Sandhurst’s Taylor Beard (6-24 & 5-81) and Bendigo’s Alex Pearson (6-55 & 5-54) leading the way with two bags each.
While Trollope’s 7-18 on Saturday ranks No.1 for Golden Square during the 2000s, they are the No.2 figures in the BDCA this season behind Cameron Taylor’s 8-55 for Strathdale against Strathfieldsaye.
