There were several locations where participants were able to get involved, including Bendigo Cemetery and Strathdale Park.
Bendigo Cemetery general manager Joanne Trickey said broken glass and fake flowers were among the most common items found at the cemetery.
“Today is an exceptionally important event for the community and judging by the size of the bags of rubbish we’ve picked up, it’s critical work that needs to be done,” Mrs Trickey said.
Strathdale Park site coordinator Emma Rainey works at the Helen Jessen Early Learning Centre in the park and also lives within close to proximity to the area.
“It’s important to teach my children and the children we look after that we’re all part of the community and we need to take responsibility in looking after our environment,” Mrs Rainey said.
