Of the teams that batted first on the opening day of round 13, only Strathdale-Maristians lasted its full quota of 85 overs against Kangaroo Flat.
Across the five games a total of 72 wickets fell for 910 runs, and only five players made more than 30.
At Scott Street, 17 wickets tumbled for 152 runs in the clash between White Hills and Golden Square.
Square has already won the game on first innings after its bowlers for the second week in a row ripped through its opposition cheaply.
Golden Square’s decision to bowl first reaped rewards as the Demons were bundled out for 64 in 47 overs, with Trollope leading the rout with a career-best day with the ball.
Trollope bettered his 6-55 against White Hills last season by bagging 7-18 off 14 overs.
Five of Trollope’s seven wickets were unassisted – four lbw and one caught and bowled.
Trollope’s performance with the ball was the best by a Golden Square player during the 2000s, surpassing Bruce Hando’s 7-38 – which was also against White Hills – in round four of the 2001-02 season.
As well as Trollope’s seven-for, Square also had opening bowler Darren Clutton prove a handful for the Demons, with the left-armer claiming 3-9 off 12 overs.
Square dismissing the Demons for 64 came a week after it bowled Bendigo out for 58 in the Goers’ first innings.
Only Rhys Irwin (20) and opener Ryan Grundy (14) made double figures for the Demons, who had been 8-39 in the 29th over before the last two wickets added 25.
However, Golden Square found batting difficult as well, losing six wickets in passing its target before ending the day at 7-88 and with a lead of 24.
Demons’ captain Mitch Winter-Irving took the second bag of wickets of the day, going to stumps with 5-18 from 11 overs, while first-gamer Liam Christensen (1-13) has his maiden first XI wicket after he dismissed Trollope (3).
• Strathfieldsaye’s meagre tally of 89 against Bendigo United is a chance of being enough to give veteran Greg Lyon a winning finish to his first XI career.
The Jets’ innings lasted just 38 overs, but they hit back hard with their chance with the ball when they sent the Redbacks to stumps at 7-66 at Harry Trott Oval on a day where 17 wickets crashed for 155 runs.
As well as being his final first XI game for the Jets, it’s also Lyon’s 300th club match. The opener’s score of 19 was one of only two in double figures for Strathfieldsaye.
The other was first-gamer Abe Sheahan, with the teenager showing plenty of grit after coming in at an awkward 3-42 and was still at the crease at the end of the innings, facing 75 balls for an unbeaten 22.
Miggy Podosky (3-22), who is edging closer to the 250-wicket mark in his career, Adrian Cronin (3-2) and Billy Quirk (3-10) all snared three wickets for the Redbacks.
Quirk took the last three wickets to fall, all the with the score on 89.
Bendigo United had 47 overs to face before stumps and crawled its way to 7-66 as Jets captain Ben Devanny, who has 3-16 off 17 overs, turned the heat back onto the Redbacks, who will have Jake Thrum (14 n.o off 101) and Jordan Quirk (2 n.o.) continue the chase next Saturday with 24 more runs needed.
• Strathdale-Maristians’ Sam Johnston was denied his first BDCA century by the barest of margins – one run – against Kangaroo Flat.
Johnston joined Eaglehawk’s Anthony West as the second player this season to be dismissed for 99 when he was bowled by Brent Hamblin off the final ball of the innings at Dower Park.
Johnston’s 99 was the backbone of a Suns’ revival after the laddder-leaders had been 6-68 before finishing at 242 against the Roos, who need to win and rely on Bendigo to lose to Huntly-North Epsom to make the finals.
Johnston – who struck seven boundaries and six sixes in his 145-ball innings – was well supported by Jacob DeAraugo (33) and Dylan Bailie (19), while the Suns also had No.3 Jack Neylon work hard for 46.
It’s the second game in a row Strathdale-Maristians’ top-order has struggled, with the Suns last round having been 4-63 before reaching 332 against Bendigo United.
As well as Johnston on Saturday, Hamblin also dismissed the Hawks’ West for 99 in round five.

Hamblin took his tally of wickets for the season to 28 with his 3-36 off 14 overs.
Roos’ youngster Ryan Bell (2-16) picked up his first wicket in the first XI when he had Nick Baker (9) caught behind, while he also removed Ben DeAraugo (0).
• Huntly-North Epsom will resume next Saturday at 3-33 in pursuit of Bendigo’s 141 at North Bendigo.
The Goers’ innings after they won the toss featured a half-century to No.3 Kyle Humphrys (57), with the next best contributions the 14 both Mitchell Bench and Tom Hart made.
Bendigo had been 2-77 before losing 8-64 to be all out in the 66th over in what’s a game where victory will secure its return to the finals for the first time since 2011.
Peter Moore (3-32) and spinner Sandun Ranathunga (3-24) combined for 6-56 off 28 overs for the Power, while it was Cory Tanner (2-32) who got the key breakthrough when he bowled Humphrys, who was one of three batsmen dismissed with the Goers’ score on 102.
• Eaglehawk requires 44 runs with five wickets to end its season with a win over the finals-bound Sandhurst.
The Hawks went to stumps at 5-72 after earlier dismissing the Dragons for 115 at Canterbury Park.
Needing an outright win to give itself any chance of a miracle finals berth, Eaglehawk won the toss and bowled and shared its wickets around.
Richard Tibbett (3-40), Shaun Knott (2-24), captain Cory Jacobs (2-17) and Cam McGlashan (2-17) all took multiple wickets for the Hawks.
The Dragons had been 4-79 before losing 6-36 to be all out in the 65th over, with Todd Murphy’s 25 the top score.
The Hawks surrendered some momentum late in the day with the loss of three wickets as they fell from 2-59 to 5-66 before Sam Williams (5 n.o.) and Matt Fitt (0 n.o.) got through to stumps and will continue their chase next Saturday.
