UPDATE 4.38pm: Police have confirmed they are investigating an attempted armed robbery at a clothing store in Hargreaves Mall.
Investigators were told a man approached the counter armed with an unknown weapon about 1.10pm and demanded cash from the attendant.
The man did not obtain any money and left the store empty-handed on foot towards a Mitchell Street bus stop.
Police wish to speak to two people who were in the store shopping at the time.

UPDATE 3.11pm: The Factorie store in Hargreaves Mall has re-opened following an incident earlier this afternoon.
A female staffer was approached by a man sometime between 1pm – 1.15pm today.
A Factorie team member said the man demanded money of the staffer.
His demeanour was perceived to have been threatening. The staffer believed the man was armed.
Police arrived about five minutes later, the Factorie team member said.
The store was closed for about an hour while police attended.

EARLIER: CRIME Scene police officers are investigating an incident in Hargreaves Mall in central Bendigo.
Police tape has been placed around the Factorie clothes store, which is now shut.
Two vans from the Bendigo Police Crime Scene squad are on the scene in the mall.
