Eight artists have been working on their murals since Saturday and have until the weekend to finish their works.

Rochester Mural Festival committee member Judy Anderson said artists had been busy early in the week.

“They’ve gone very well with getting the paint on the boards. A lot are almost finished,” she said.

“They are judged on Saturday at noon, so most would hope to be finished by Friday and do the bare minimum on Saturday.

“Some have a bit to go and will need the last two days to get the whole thing on there.”

The festival first ran in 2014 and has a different theme each year. This year’s theme is “Nature, Her Beauty and Bounty”.

This year’s festival was launched last Friday with 75 people attending the dinner.

“It was excellent and since then we have had visitors from New York, Scotland, Holland, Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia,” Ms Anderson said.

“We have also had a few ex-Rochy people coming back to have a look.

“A lot of students have also visited and talked to the artists.”

The festival is also hosting an exhibition of the artists’ works in the restored court house and the Lions club holding a barbecue on Saturday.
