BENDIGO athletes have excelled at the Little Athletics Northern Country Little Region (NCR) Championships in Shepparton.

A 67-strong team combined for 39 gold, 48 silver and 32 bronze for a total of 119 medals.
There were also five NCR championship records set by Bendigo athletes, with a number coming in the race walking events.
Under-nine athletes Maurice Nihill and Kate Wilson in the 700m race walk both took gold and set new NCR records with times of 4:00.7 and 4:01.2 respectively.
Wilson also starred in the high jump and long jump and collected three gold medals in total.
From the under-11 age group and 1100 metre race walk it was Jasmine Murphy with a 6:28.0 setting a new NCR benchmark for the event.
Recent state multi-event gold medallist Monique Gavriliadis took home three gold medals.
Two of these were new NCR records for the 80m hurdles in 13.23 and 200m hurdles 30.07.
Several athletes became dual gold medallists from the event.
These were:
Brodie Vaughan (under-9 girls) 400m and 800m;
Tazma Ferrie (under-9 girls) 100m and 60m metre hurdles;
William Peterson (under-9 boys) 70m and 100m;
Megan Wilson (under-12 girls) 400m and 800 m;
Sebastyn Andrea (under-13 boys) 400m and 800m;
Morgan Elliott;
Patrick Hannaford;
Serryn Eenjes (under-15 girls) discus and triple jump;
Carissa Brook (under-15 girls) 1500m race walk and javelin.
Other Bendigo centre athletes to claim gold medals were Jasper Seymour, Eamon Austin, Miller Armstrong, Logan Tickell, Jake Gavriliadis, Connor Clarke, Matthew Noden, Jayden Day, Aasha Elliott, Charlotte Murphy, Haylee Greenman, Poppy Palmer and Hannah Greenman.
Athletics Bendigo general manager Craig Green said praised the team’s performance.
“All our athletes whether they medalled or not competed and did the blue and gold of Bendigo very proud,” he said.
“To run outside of your own area can be daunting but everyone did their best.”
Green said many of the athletes would now go onto the State Little Athletics Championships at the State Athletic Centre over the March Labour Day weekend.
