The Scotch College graduate, who is from Bendigo, was in hot form in the 800m at last weekend’s Athletics Australia national titles on the Gold Coast.
Wallis achieved a time of 1:49.92 as he raced to fourth place in the opening heat on the Carrara track.
All summer he has aimed to beat the world juniors qualifying mark of 1:50.
The world junior titles will be run in July in Tamere, Finland.

Three recent winners of open titles in the Bendigo Dragon Mile raced at Carrara across the weekend.
Elmore’s Teleah Hayes raced in the 1500m and 5000m at the nationals and just missed qualifying for the 1500m final.
The young star from South Bendigo Athletics Club won the open division of the Dragon Mile in 2016 and ’17 and dominated in the schools levels for many years.
Andy Buchanan from Bendigo University AC was a Dragon Mile champion in 2015 and ’16 and raced in the 1500m and 5000m in his latest nationals campaign.
Meanwhile, the second-last heat of the Flack Advisory Distance Series will be raced over 800m on Thursday night at the Tom Flood Sports Centre in conjunction with the Bendigo District Cycling Club’s track racing.
Will McCaig won last week’s 1000m race ahead of the consistent Ingrid Douglass.
Gabrielle Rushbridge is still holding the lead in the series aggregate.
Rushbridge has 60 points, with last year’s winner Issac Everett and Arron Norton both on 59, followed by George Flack on 56 and Craig Green on 50.
