Detours at Priest and Hall streets are in place for residents affected by the Scott Street closure.
Works have commenced at the Scott Street intersection with various road closures occurring until mid-March.
Hamelin Street was closed to traffic in early February while new kerbs and drainage were installed, road resurfaced and bus stop near Holy Rosary Primary School built.
VicRoads acting regional director, northern region, Brian Westley thanks the community and drivers for their patience.
“Stage Two of the Napier Street Upgrade is well underway with works starting on the construction of new kerbs, resurfacing the road and preparing for traffic lights to be installed,” he said.
“Works in Hamelin Street East including the new bus stop near Holy Rosary Primary School will improve safety for students and traffic flow in the area.”
Residents have also had limited access to Napier Street with entrances to Bosquet and Hamelin street being closed until last Thursday.
Pedestrians are also being affected by the roadworks with some footpaths closed in the area.
Closures allow for key utility relocation works and the construction of new concrete footpaths and kerbs.
The $30 million upgrade began in June last year and will add a traffic lane in each direction along 2.7 kilometres of the road, stretching between Weeroona Avenue and Hall Street.
There will also be dedicated bike lanes, a median strip, new traffic lights, a boulevard of trees and underground power lines.
VicRoads has engaged with affected residents about these works and advises that possible delays may be expected.
“We ask you to please observe and comply with the temporary changed traffic conditions for your own safety, the safety of other drivers, pedestrians and our workers,” the organisation said in a statement.
