UPDATE 12PM: Fifty firefighters, with the help of air support, have managed to control a 10-hectare grass fire near the Calder Highway at Faraday.
Country Fire Authority District 2 Duty Officer Bill Johnstone said crews had difficulty accessing the fire due to wire rope barriers in place on the highway, which is closed between Harcourt and Elphinstone, from Pollards Road to the south and Victoria Road to the north.
The fire was under control at 12pm, Mr Johnstone said.
Sixteen CFA crews attended the blaze.
Motorists are uged to avoid the area.
EARLIER Numerous Country Fire Authority crews are tackling an out-of-control grass fire close to the Calder Highway near Castlemaine.
The grass fire is travelling in a north-easterly direction towards the Calder Highway at Faraday.
The Calder Highway is closed between Harcourt and Elphinstone.
According to VicEmergency, there is currently no threat to communities, but you should continue to stay informed and monitor conditions.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
