There is nothing certain in life, as the famous saying goes, but taxes and death.
Two central Victorian women are trying to make people more comfortable with the latter inevitability, bringing death out of the realm of the morbid and into a place more everyday.
Hayley West and Annie Morabito organise Castlemaine’s Death Cafe, a not-for-profit initiative born in the United Kingdom that has spread across the world.
Death Cafe is a free event where people can come together and talk about death, with the initiative aimed at opening up conversation and helping people appreciate the finite nature of their lives.
