Macedon Ranges Shire Council is urging anyone who might have information on last weekend’s incident to contact police.
“It is disappointing to see this kind of damage inflicted on a local community asset,” assets and operations director Dale Thornton said.
“The park relies on irrigation to water the large number of trees and shrubs in the garden, and to have it attacked without regard for the consequences is frustrating.”
Kyneton Botanic Gardens was established in 1858 and contains a large number of heritage-listed trees.
Lyn Currie, from Friends of Kyneton Botanic Garden, said the incident was disappointing.
“The garden is a sanctuary for locals and visitors alike, so it’s difficult to understand why someone would want to harm it in any way,” she said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Kyneton police station on 5421 2900.
