Readers voted Borchelli Ristorante the best Italian in the Bendigo, Ballarat and Goldfields while Indian restaurant Food O’Clock was voted most popular regional restaurant.
Food O’Clock owner Jagjit Kaur said her and her husband Ekbal Singh received great community support since opening four years ago.
“We knew that food was good, that’s what we want to serve, but we have been well supported by Bendigo community,” Ms Kaur said.
“Our service is also good and our staff are well trained and have been here since we opened. It's good to have long-term staff. Things add up (to make a good restaurant).”
Ms Kaur and Mr Singh operated Golden Brown Indian Restaurant in St Arnaud before moving to Bendigo.
“We still have St Arnaud people come here for our food,” Ms Kaur said.
“But we wanted a bigger population for our sort of business. We were meeting our budget in St Arnaud but wanted a bigger town and Bendigo was the place.
“Ekbal has been a chef his whole life and came to Australia in 1996. I came over in 2001 when we got married.”
In Castlemaine, Pud For All Seasons was voted best providore, The Governor’s Cafe was voted best cafe and Klua Sathorn is the region’s favourite Thai restaurant.
The Midland Hotel in Castlemaine was voted by readers as the preferred accommodation in the region.
