The Magpies are due to play their first game of the season on Saturday, April 13, against Maldon.
Campbells Creek – the junior club of Richmond star and reigning Brownlow medallist Dustin Martin – had appointed Matt Hodoras as its new senior coach for 2018.
However, an employment opportunity in Albury forced Hodoras to step aside in December, with the Magpies still yet to appoint a replacemenet.
With no senior coach at the helm, the Magpies pre-season training is being run by their leadership group of Dylan Gordois, Matt Lorenz, Chris Klimeck, Daniel Klimeck and Kaleb Kennedy.
“Matt has left us all the training programs that he had developed, so the boys have been using those,” Campbells Creek president David Gordois said on Saturday.
“We’re obviously trying to get ourselves a coach, but we also have a plan B in place if need be where some of the leadership guys have said they will continue with the training and we’ve had someone put their hand up to help out on the bench on a weekend.
“It’s unfortunate that Matt had to move on. We’ve had a couple of people interested in the position, but we have nothing confirmed yet.”
The advertisement that Campbells Creek has placed seeking a new senior coach states: “This is an exciting opportunity for a coach to use their leadership skills to further develop a young and inspiring football team at a well run family club.”
As well as being the junior club of Martin, Campbells Creek also has the claim to fame of being in the Guiness Book of Records for kicking the highest score in a senior game of 100.34 (634) against Primrose in June of 1990.
While that was a record-breaking day for the Magpies, the club has done it tough with just 38 senior wins in 10 seasons since a year in recess in 2007.
