The coward punch assault happened early on the morning of Saturday, December 2, in the car park between McCrae Street and Farmer Lane.
The victim had been at the Universal night club and Shamrock Hotel earlier, but went looking for his friends in the car park when they got separated.
First Constable Levina Bell said the attack happened sometime after 12.30am, when the victim remembered entering the car park. He woke up at 4.30am, sore but with no memory of the assault.
“It’s disgusting that today with all the media regarding one-punch and the damage it can do that there are people out there that can still carry on with that behaviour,” she said.
“It’s sickening.”
It wasn’t until the victim got home that he realised the extent of his injuries and went to the hospital.
First Constable Bell said the injuries were quite nasty and included a concussion, bruising, cut lip and broken tooth, which required a trip to the dental hospital in Melbourne.
“It’s sickening,” she said, adding that it had the potential to be a lot worse for the victim.
Anyone who has information about the attack or saw anything is urged to contact First Constable Levina Bell at the Bendigo police on 5448 1300, Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
