Bendigo South East College's Academy of Creative Arts has been recognised by Drama Victoria.
The ACA won an award for it’s innovative curriculum that works with students in the performance arts areas of dance, vocals, drama, music and visual arts.
ACA manager Cynthia Holsworth developed the program in 2015.
“For a regional program to get this recognition is amazing. Once I (received the award) it was overwhelming to see we are up with the likes of the Melbourne Theatre Company and the Malthouse Theatre,” she said.
“It's a different program. It’s the only one of its kind offering kids the chance to really engage in academics while being immersed in arts.
“I was employed as an arts administrator and asked to create a program similar to BSE’s sports program. We trialled it in 2015 and have been going ever since.”
Currently 105 students are enrolled in the ACA program and Ms Holsworth plans to help it grow.
Ms Holsworth said to be able to provide students with the opportunity to work with industry professional was the highlight.
“They are opportunities students don’t normally have,” she said.
“I wanted to give students those opportunities that I was fortunate enough to have.
