High temperatures meant the scheduled Leigh Purtill 10km championship, a 25-lap contest, was postponed until next Tuesday.
McCaig had won several distance runs at LUBAC this track season and powered to the line in a time of 10 minutes 16.40.
Runner-up was University clubmate and Athletics Bendigo general manager Craig Green, 10:56.26; as Rossi Evans from Bendigo Harriers raced to third place.
McCaig will be one of many athletes to watch in this Saturday’s duel for the Ern Hammer Memorial 3km at LUBAC.

Meanwhile, race two in the Flack Advisory Distance Series will be run at the Tom Flood Sports Centre on Thursday night.
Race two will be run over 1000m starting at 7.15pm.
