Year 8 and 9 students spent two periods a week during terms 3 and 4 creating projects developed around their personal skills and passions. Projects included fashion creations, film production, indoor watering systems, artwork, brain studies, mechanical projects and sports games.
The Martyn Program allows students and their parents to make a choice based on the individual student’s learning style and interests.
Students developed their own project, from choice of topic, through planning and development phases and now the completed projects are going on show.
The aim is for students to form an awareness of critical and creative thinking processes that will further develop their resilience and social skills.
Martyn Program teacher Leah Cordedda said about 75 students took part in this year’s expo.
“The program only started last year with 50 students and it is great to see students, even some who can be quite challenging, embrace this program,” she said.
“Student projects have to be centred around their driving question, which they develop themselves.
“It is impressive how students can articulate their learning. One girl made a dress that won first prize at the Bendigo Show.”
