Speakeasies were once clandestine affairs but there’ll be no missing the orange one destined for metropolitan streets.
On Thursday Bendigo Tramways handed wine brand Chandon S a repurposed Melbourne W Class tram.
A modern take on the traditional speakeasy, the Chandon S Chic Easy would act as a pop-up bar and begin touring Melbourne this weekend before heading to Sydney, the Gold Coast and Perth.
Tickets would entitle guests to a one-and-a-half hour journey complete with cocktails, hands-on experiences and food.
Bendigo Tramways manager Luke Jenkins said there were a lot of Melbourne W-Class trams that had reached the end of their working lives and were ideal for that kind of repurpose.
“We have completed similar work for other businesses, but this transformation is particularly exciting given it was quite a tight time frame and will see the tram travelling around Australia,” he said.
