BENDIGO’S baby boom is showing no signs of slowing.
August was a record-breaking month for births at Bendigo Health as the city welcomed 147 newborn babies – almost five a day.
The previous record of 135 was reached in May 2016.
The number of babies delivered in Bendigo has increased since the opening of the new hospital, which is required to receive at-risk pregnant women from across the Loddon-Mallee region.
The new maternity ward also has an increased capacity. It boasts nine more single rooms for new mothers, three more birthing suites and seven more cots in the Special Care Nursery.
