Sergeant Geoff Annand, from Bendigo Highway Patrol, said police received reports of an erratic driver travelling on the Midland Highway towards Bendigo, from Elmore.
But before officers could intercept the vehicle, the driver allegedly drove onto a median strip in White Hills while trying to turn onto Holdsworth Road from Plumridge Street, running into a light post.
Police allege he recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.16.
He will be summonsed to appear in court for drink-driving and other traffic offences.
