The first heat of the 660m series is race five and in-form chaser Barry Bomber looks the runner to beat in his first attempt at the staying trip.
The Chris Stanton-trained Barry Bomber has a terrific record at Bendigo over the 500m trip and recently stepped up to middle distance racing, and comes into his debut staying run off the back of consecutive victories at Sandown in 34.81 over the 595m and The Meadows in 35.20 over the 600m.
Despite the awkward box five draw Barry Bomber has the speed to lead and will take plenty of catching if he can see out the concluding stages.
The main dangers look to be Ima Caravan and Miss Lava, who both have been racing in fine form at Mt Gambier over the 600m, with Miss Lava recently leading up before finishing a creditable fourth at The Meadows over 725m.
Race seven over the 660m trip looks to be Federal Agent’s race to lose. Also set to carry the yellow rug and start the punters elect, Federal Agent, unlike Barry Bomber, is proven at the distance having scored an impressive 38.13 Ballarat 660m win at his most recent outing on September 6.
Since entering the Toolleen kennel of Rod Clark the talented stayer has contested four 660m events at Bendigo and is yet to salute. However Friday’s assignment looks to be an easier one than he previous contests.
Recent Shepparton 650m winner Kayley’s Comet and rising five year All In Together, who has won three of his past four starts, look the main dangers to Federal Agent should he not find a clear passage through the ruck mid race.
