Having been recently crowned the Victorian Schools Junior Girls Netball champions, the team again starred in the finals of the School Sport Victoria State Netball Titles played earlier this week.
The team, co-coached by Julie Fennell and Sharna Frawley, won all five of its games on finals day played at the Waverley Netball Centre.
CCB defeated Viewbank College 34-11, Maribyrnong Sport Academy 21-15 and Emmanuel College Warrnambool 24-20 in its preliminary matches.
A 33-21 semi-final win over Mt Erin College propelled CCB into the grand final, where it again proved too strong for Maribyrnong Sport Academy, winning 17-7 to claim the title.
“It has been an incredible year for the Year 8 girls being undefeated in all competitions,” CCB sports co-ordinator Maree Pearce said.
“The girls play brilliant netball as a team and this is the main reason for their amazing success.”
Winning team – Piper Dunlop, Ellie Donnellon, Nikita Matthews, Meg McCarthy, Deanna Duane, Carissa Brook, Tahlee O’Keefe, Abby Clohesy, Amelia Moon-Manning, Tiahna Leader.
Meanwhile, CCB’s senior team fell just short of a double celebration.
The senior team also qualified for a grand final, but went down 21-18 to Rowville Sports Academy.
The grand final loss followed earlier preliminary round wins over Sacred Heart College Kyneton (30-14), Maribyrnong Sports Academy (25-15) and Trinity College Colac (27-16), plus a 27-17 semi-final victory over Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College.
“The senior girls played incredible netball all day, but just came up short in the final against a very skilful team from Rowville,” Pearce said.
The senior team was coached by Anthea McEnirey.
Senior team – Madeline Sexton, Olivia Dullard, Olivia Houlden, Anneliese Spear, Imogen Sexton, Abbey McCarthy, Ellie Wilson, Meg Williams, Paige Ryan, Meg Patterson.
