“I don’t know when it will sink in and it’s hard to comprehend at the moment… after the heartbreak of the past two years to the feeling right now, it’s just unbelievable,” Couwnenberg said after the Bombers’ 26-point Heathcote District league grand final win over North Bendigo.
Couwenberg was among nine Bombers’ players on Saturday who had lost grand finals to North Bendigo the previous two years.
But on Saturday the hungry Bombers were the superior team as they soared to their first flag since 1995.
“It was a fantastic team effort. A lot of credit to our younger guys who were very strong over the footy and we were able to get the ball to our outside runners, which is what our game is built on,” said Couwneberg, who kicked a goal during the third quarter.
“And we delivered to our forwards really well.”
