At Saturday’s event, seven clarinetists performed Capricorn’s Nostalgic Crickets, a set of 96 sound events that inspired its composer Horatiu Radulescu to develop a new compositional theory of ‘sound plasma’.
They were then joined by clarinetists from the community to play Small Infinities Together, a new piece by Samuel Dunscombe that was played for the first time within the confines of the sandstone cathedral and built on the concepts of the sound plasma theory.
The clarinet orchestra event was one of nearly 30 being held across four days in the first weekend of September.
The festival finishes with a day-long computer music workshop on Monday.
