Games were played at the QEO, Golden Square, Kangaroo Flat and Kyneton, with some thrilling finishes highlighting some brilliant matches.
The finals started with the under-16 seniors first semi-final at the QEO on Saturday morning.
Sandhurst caused an upset by ending Sandhurst Marist Dockers’ season.
The game was on the line at three quarter-time, but the young Dragons surged clear in the final quarter.
They kicked 4.3 to 0.1 in the final quarter to win 7.9 (51) to 2.4 (16).
In the under-14 seniors division first semi-final on Sunday, a six-goal to none second term was the catalyst of Golden Square’s big win over Strathfieldsaye. The Dogs held the Storm to 0.1 with the wind in the first quarter and then added 6.6 to no score in the second term to open up a match-winning 43-point win at the main break. Square went on to win 12.13 (85) to 5.6 (36).
The under-12A first semi-final was a classic, with Kyneton ending St Therese’s season after it won by one point. In a low-scoring slog, the Tigers didn’t kick a goal after quarter time, but somehow clung on to win 2.10 (22) to 3.3 (21).
In the under-18 youth girls division, Strathfieldsaye staved off elimination against Castlemaine.
The Roos dominated the elimination final and cruised to victory, 13.9 (87) to 2.1 (13). Tara Slender bagged five goals for the Storm, while Maeve Tupper was best player.
Kangaroo Flat is one win away from a grand final berth after it defeated Kyneton by 50 points in the qualifying final. Shelby Knoll kicked four goals for the Roos in the 8.11 (59) to 1.3 (9) win.
In the under-15 girls, Kyneton advanced to the preliminary final after it defeated Golden Square in the elimination final. The Tigers trailed by seven points at the first change, but they dominated the final three quarters to win 9.8 (62) to 2.2 (14). Josephine Fenwick bagged six of her side’s nine goals.
