IT’S been the concert venue of choice for internationally-acclaimed musicians such as Bruce Springsteen, Ed Sheeran, and Midnight Oil.
Now, the Macedon Ranges Shire Council is keen to hear people raise their voices about the future of Hanging Rock.
A draft Hanging Rock Master Plan Options Paper will be on display from today, marking the start of a month-long public consultation period.
The document will shape the future of the Victorian landmark, with options for events, sporting facilities, activities, and layout changes.
“Council wants to ensure a thriving and resilient Hanging Rock precinct for the long term,” Macedon Ranges mayor Jennifer Anderson said.
“We encourage both residents and visitors to share their vision for the precinct and help develop this blueprint for the future.”
Proposed improvements include a new visitor centre and cafe, upgraded trails and parking, and changes to the location of the entry.
The draft plan also suggests implementing a zoning system for events, recreation and nature.
A proposed sporting hub would consolidate all sporting facilities in one precinct.
The document highlights opportunities to stage a series of markets and an annual multi-day music festival showcasing the region’s food and wines.
“The final master plan will take into account the community’s feedback and all the cultural, environmental, heritage and social values that this significant site provides to the community,” Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas said.
The draft plan was developed late last year, and can be viewed online or at the council’s offices.
A community forum will be held later this month, or early September.
Submissions can be made online or in print and close on September 17.
The council expects the master plan to be finalised by the year’s end.
