Police are investigating after an inmate was stabbed with a homemade knife at Loddon Prison.

Detective Sergeant Roland Kurzke said the stabbing happened about 7.30pm on Friday in a communal area at the Castlemaine prison.
He said the man, a 47-year-old, was stabbed in the neck area but wasn’t seriously injured.
The inmate was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.
