Bendigo’s Sam Irwin-Hill produced another solid performance for the Dallas Cowboys against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL pre-season on Sunday (AEST).

In his second start for the Cowboys, Irwin-Hill punted the ball six times at an average of 38 yards, with his longest punt a more than respectable 53 yards.

Most importantly, two of Irwin-Hill’s six punts landed inside the Rams’ 20-yard line, giving the Cowboys’ good field position.

Irwin-Hill, 26,  also took one kick at goal, connecting on an extra point after the Cowboys’ only touchdown for the match.

The Rams won the low-scoring clash 13-10.

Irwin-Hill, a former Eaglehawk and Bendigo Pioneers footballer, is fighting for a position on the Cowboys’ final roster.

His cause wasn’t helped last week when Dallas re-signed starting punter Chris Jones to a four-year deal.

However, other clubs around the NFL are looking for new punters/kickers and they will be taking notice of Irwin-Hill’s performances.

The Cowboys have a 1-1 pre-season record ahead of their next match against Indianapolis next Sunday (AEST).
