The funds have been donated to Backpack Beds for Homeless, which will be distributed to Anglicare Victoria’s Youth Homelessness Services program in Bendigo.
The backpack beds will help address the immediate needs of young people within the community experiencing homelessness.
We are grateful for the support provided by St Peter’s Anglican Church. It is extremely valuable, especially throughout the colder months. Many young people experiencing homelessness have re-occurring stays, or are being provided with accommodation for medium term periods of time by our youth homelessness program.
The backpack beds are useful for helping gain a sense of dignity and lift their self-esteem, as well as protection against the harsh weather.
Over the 2016-17 financial year, Bendigo’s youth homelessness program assisted 328 individuals aged between 16 and 20 in Bendigo to link in with local accommodation services. Support is always welcome from community groups.

Vote a dignified solution
The probability of a postal vote on same sex marriage has, as expected, been met with consternation in some quarters.
There have been the usual claims that debate about the subject will cause division and even hate.
While the postal plebiscite is, to put it mildly, a Mickey Mouse solution, it appears that it will be the vehicle used to decide the issue. If you stop and think about it, it may in fact be a good solution. All anyone needs to do is tick ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ on the paper, seal it in the envelope and return it.
No one needs to, or probably even should, disclose their choice. There is no need for name calling, claiming to be offended or persecuted, or any other efforts to guilt others into changing their stance.
It should in fact be a dignified and peaceful way to gauge where Australia stands on same sex marriage in 2017.
The fear for some people who have very strong views one way or the other, is that one side will be seen to have the majority of support among Australians.
Which means that the other side will have to come to terms with an obvious truth, which is that ‘no’ is also an answer.
