The album, The Revival Meeting, is the band’s 12th record.
Band founder David Bridie said the collection of songs about a person trying to find their place.
“The protagonist – who could be you, who could be me, who could be the woman next door - is trying to find their place in an increasingly mad world,” he said.
The band recorded the album in Flowerdale after Bridie wrote the new songs.
“We all get along pretty well after all these years. These new tunes still have that certain feel that makes us go ‘yeah, it’s worth all the effort,” Bridie said.
“For a while we’d pondered our mortality as a band, weren’t sure whether we'd make another one. However we’re on the creative quest yet again.”
My Friend the Chocolate Cake is performing at the Theatre Royal in Castlemaine on August 18. Visit www.tickets.oztix.com.au for tickets or more details.
