City of Greater Bendigo director of presentation and assets Craig Lloyd said due to the range of works taking place in White Hills, parking was at a premium, especially surrounding the botanic gardens.
“I would like to remind residents to park only in designated on street parking areas and that parking on nature strips is illegal. The city’s parking officers will be monitoring the area during school pickup and drop off times and we don’t want to see anyone receive an unnecessary fine,” he said.
The fine for parking on nature strips is $95, which is mandated by the state government but enforced by local councils.
“To ensure the health and safety of local residents, school children, their parents and carers we ask that they take care with the changed traffic conditions in the area. Please also be aware of additional truck movements and altered speed limits during the works period,” Mr Lloyd said.
“While the works are underway it could be a good time to explore the benefits of walking or cycling to school or work via the Bendigo Creek Linear Trail which commences at Howard Street Epsom and continues into the central business district. Please note, when the bridge works are completed the trail will run underneath the new bridge in Scott Street eliminating the need to cross Scott Street.”
Works include:
- Construction of $4.6 million Garden for the Future at Bendigo Botanic Gardens White Hills (due for completion early 2018)
- Goynes Road improvement works (due for completion in August 2017)
- Installation of new bridge in Scott Street (due for completion in September 2017)
- Major upgrade of Napier Street by VicRoads (due for completion 2019)
- Construction of new Botanica Green housing subdivision by a private land development company off Priest Street (due for completion in September 2017)
